Retail Therapy: Boots, Superdrug, Mac and Chanel *new video*

Most beauty bloggers do haul videos where they show things they have recently bought. I wasn’t going to do that. Why? I’ve thought about this for a bit and the honest answer is: I don’t want my friends to judge me. I don’t want them to think that I am boasting, that I am showing off the fact that I can afford to buy a load of ‘superficial’ stuff. Frankly, I didn’t want them to think – “Good grief, she spends a ridiculous amount of money on makeup!” So I wasn’t going to do hauls.

But then I thought, am I being hypocritical? Let’s face it, I used to be a mental health blogger, but I got bored with blogging about my health care experiences, etc etc. I wanted to blog about pretty, beautiful things instead, so here we are.

Since I’m reviewing different products and am using them in tutorials anyway, I might as well admit that I bought them, right? Nonetheless, I can’t quite bring myself to call these posts ‘hauls’, so I thought I’d call them retail therapy instead.

Partly as a joke, but mainly because browsing and buying makeup really is somewhat therapeutic for me. If I have a bad day, I still try to leave the house at least once. Fresh air and a slight change of scenery helps, even if just a bit. But I don’t like just going for a walk, so usually I go to Boots. There are always new products to swatch. This prospect rarely fails to excite me. I don’t even need to buy something, and when it comes to more expensive things I arguably do spend a lot of time reading reviews and mulling it over before buying (here’s me trying to appease any judgemental friends again :)!).

After all this rambling, without further ado, here is what I recently bought. Sorry there aren’t any swatches, but I will do individual reviews on most of these products in the near future.

Mac paint pot in Chilled on ice. This is from the current limited edition of paint pots. It was between this one, let’s skate and vintage selection. Review coming up!

Une healthy glow mineral powder in H07. I don’t know if the entire brand is being discontinued, or if just local Boots is getting rid of it. Either way, I bought this matte bronzer for 3 pounds something instead of 14.99. Bargain!

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in B20. I have been wanting this foundation for at least a month ever since I first picked up a sample. It is so lovely. I reviewed it here.

Accessorize nail varnish in fudge. Lovely, lovely nude taupe colour. Review coming up soon.

Marks and Spencer Atmosphere retractable powder brush. I use this for contouring. It’s lovely and soft, and not too pricey for £7.50.

Sleek face form palette in light. This was out of stock in my local super drug for ages, but then I did get the last one when they restocked it. Again, review to follow!

  1. Loved your video. I use Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua and i love it so much. I also have the compact version too for when i need slightly heavier coverage. I use B20 too.

  2. At first I didn’t like the stigma and the guilty feeling that haul posts entailed, but after a while, I also got over the odd guilt and just succumbed to the fact that when you love something, you just want to share it! 🙂

  3. Ugh, I know what you mean about being concerned that people would judge make-up purchases! Here on blogs or on youtube one gets to feel at ease with such things, being surrounded by it all the time. But when it comes to people outside that circle, it can be a bit intimidating. I pretty much only talk to my sister about makeup (outside dedicated internet venues) and I often get comments like – why do you need another mascara? what are you gonna do with so many eyeshadow palettes? LOL

I too like to go makeup swatching when I’m having an off day. I think it’s colors and textures and “touchability” in general that’s so very therapeutic.

I wanted to look into Sleek contour kit and I think you just sold it to me by mentioning it comes with Rose Gold blush! I hope our Sephora has it, will have to check!

Oh and I like how you photograph make-up on sequins, so pretty!
