Look of the Day: Daytime Smokey Eye

smokey lotd (2 von 2)

smokey lotd (1 von 2)

I’ve never experimented much with smokey eyes because I find it difficult to make them work for my eyeshape. Lots of dark eyeshadow directly around my lashlines looks odd on me, I always go for darker colours in the crease. However, I’ve been admiring Lisa Eldridge other people’s smokey looks for a while now and I am determined to make this work for me. Here is a first attempt… I wanted it to work in the daytime, so skipped gel liner, etc.

– YSL Youth Liberator foundation in B30

– Maybelline Dream Lumi touch concealer in Ivory under the eyes

– Nars deep throat blush

– Nars Laguna bronzer in an attempt to contour my nose

– Nars light reflecting loose setting powder

– Rimmel Exaggerate eye-shadow primer

– Nars Fairy’s kiss eyeshadow palette (light lilac over the lid, matte grey in the outer corner/lower lashline/eyebrows, matte black in the centre of the outer corner, with plenty of blending in between)

– Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencil in Uzi (grey) along top lashline

– Gosh Volumateur waterproof mascara (new love)

– Rimmel Scandaleyes nude eyeliner in the waterline (I tried a dark grey first – looked aweful!)

– Nothing, just Nuxe Reve de miel lipbalm

Look of the Day: Shopping my stash

I get very excited about new products. Who doesn’t? But today I ended up using all my old favourites. It started with my thinking “Why don’t I use my beloved Naked palette anymore?” And then one thing led to another…

– Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in B20
The only full size high-end foundation I own. Why do I always look for new bases? This one still has my favourite texture, finish and application.

– Nyx mosaid powder in Highlighter
Great highlighter. Not glittery at all, just a fine silvery shimmer.

– Tarte Amazonian clay blush in Exposed
Oh my gosh. So natural and beautiful. I used to use this every single day. Then summer came and with it my coral-peach obsession. This one is more plummy pink, great as we are going into Autumn.

– Soap and Glory solar powder
– Nars light reflecting loose setting powder

– Urban Decay Naked palette (Sin, Virgin, Darkhorse)
Amazing pigmentation, creamy texture. WHy did I ever stop using this?

– Eyeko skinny eyeliner
Helen Mirren signed my programme with this. If that’s not a good reason to use it, the easy application and staying power is.

– Rimmel Scandaleyes eye pencil in Nude
How could I forget about this instant eye brightener?

– Maybelline One by One waterproof mascara

– Mac Hug me
Long before I got properly into beauty, this used to be my go-to lipstick. It is pretty much the colour of my lips. Why am I still looking at nude lipsticks?! I also love the Lustre finish.

Look of the day: Wearable black liner

I rarely wear black eyeliner on an everyday basis, although I love a neat feline flick for special occasions. This is me dipping my toe into the whole soft, smudged liner business.

– Laura Mercier Oil-free tinted moisturizer in Bisque
I bought this at Gatwick Airport duty free several months ago, but never really got into it. In the winter, the shade I was matched to was actually too dark for me. Now that I am more tanned (Chanel B30-B40), it’s a much better fit. I like this – it gives a bit of coverage that evens out my skintone while still looking natural.
– Soap and Glory Solar powder
The golden highlighter is growing on me!
– Alterra powder blush in natural rose
Stay tuned for a post on German drugstore makeup.
– Nars light reflecting loose setting powder (T-zone only)
My favourite setting powder ever. Instant Gaussian blur.

– Urban Decay 24/7 glide-on pencil in zero
Along the upper lash line and smudged out with a lip brush.
– Mac fluidline in Blacktrack.
Along the outer half of my lash line pressed into my lashes and dotted underneath.
– Maybelline One by One Waterproof mascara (what else?).

– Giorgio Armani Rouge d’Armani in 511
A high-end splurge that deserves a full review. Amazing formula that lasts.

I took the pictures after several hours of wear, hence the not-quite-flawless complexion.

– Soap and Glory Solar powder Bronzer & Highlighter

– Mac paint pot in Vintage selection (all over the lid)
– Maybelline 24h color tattoo in On and on bronze (outer corner)
– Maybelline One by One Mascara in waterproof

– Maybelline Superstay lipstick in Stay with me coral (entirely enabled by Lisa Eldridge)
– Nyx Megashine lipgloss in candy shop

New video: Ballet photo shoot with Merritt Moore – Behind the scenes

Dancers are amazing to work with on photo shoots, and Merritt was no exception. She looked stunning and did the most beautiful movements without much direction.

For her make up I used the MUA Undress me too palette for the eyes along with a bit of the Naked palette. The eyeliner was my trusted Collection 2000 Extreme 24h waterproof felt tip. I used the Sleek Face form palette for contouring and the Tarte Amazonian clay blush in Exposed. I set everything with the Nars Light reflecting loose setting powder. For the lips I mixed Kate Moss for Rimmel No 05 and Mac Modesty.

The final pictures will be up on this blog soon. Stay tuned.
